Larry Stewart Larry was a visionary who believed in something that impacted many here today and others not here. He believed in a Native Ministry call of training, equipping, doing camps for kids and youth as outreach for Christ and enabling the Native community to join in this great mission for Christ. This man also had a gift for fixing things; a handy man to have around Camp. I often knew him as quiet, peaceful and real a encouragement to people around him. I would often visit with Larry at Camp and see how he was doing. Even when he was feeling like things were the pits, he always had a smile on his face and appreciated the company and chats. Larry was a real man after God’s own heart. I think of the verse in Isaiah 42:16, “I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.” Larry reflected a light in him that shown bright in the darkness of uncertainty. The verse that hits me when I think of Larry is Isaiah 40:31, “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like Eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” To me, Larry made that impression. He was a man of potential and knowledge. He was a history shaker and maker. Even though Larry is gone now, the vision he had longed for is in progress and will stay in my heart forever. Larry’s drive and potential thinking for the Native People has created a stirring in my soul and heart to gear up and take up this challenge which he was a part in starting: Uniting a foundation to build on for Camp Living Water and spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the Native community of Alberta. I will miss Larry for the leadership he showed to all of us, the awesome friend he was and for not being afraid to expand his borders to make an impact for Christ. This vision inspiration from Larry should be stirring in all of us; all we have to do is tap into it. I would like to raise a toast to Larry Stewart: A man of vision and a history maker in my books. Presented by: Daniel Stamm at the memorial service for Larry Stewart. Larry went home to be with his Lord in 2008. |
